The Revamp - New York Time News App Case Study

As digital space is evolving every day by day, it is interesting to take into consideration whatever solution you want to prefer digitally. Design thinking is one of the major tools one must use to gather insights from their target audience in other to avoid any form of resources, time, and effort being wasted. During the process of reading the New York Times News App case study, I was able to gather some tips that could help me learn more about the design process and guide me through my journey. They focused on these three major aspects to help come up with a better solution for their target audience.

  1. Carrying out Research

  2. Conduction Interviews

  3. Design + Ideat + Test

Below are the three major take home I gathered from the case study which are;

Carrying out Research:

Research is one of the key elements of a UX Designer and also when starting a new project or redesigning an existing one. Carrying out proper research on the habits of both young and average people is very important in other to understand the pain points of users and also fit into their lives instead of just urging their app which in other words, they emphasize with their users.

On this note, carrying out research for a new or existing app is important as it saves time, resources and any form of bias along the line. Research helps you to know your target audience well, their frustration, and pain points and helps you in coming up with solutions to solving some of their problems.

Conducting Interview/Survey:

An interview is another key step to best understand your potential users or key users of the product as it provides basic insights on what and how to provide solutions to the user's problem. During the interview, you get to see your user's frustrations, and pain points and also gather their reactions during that process.

Another way in which you can get to know your key users is through an interview, which has to do with physical interaction. The survey can also be used to gather insigts from users or target audiences in UX Design which entails sending out a questionnaire to different users to get their opinions and points of view and then the result can be filtered along the line.

Design + Ideat + Test:

After gathering all the results from your research, surveys and interviews. It is now time to come up with different concepts by maintaining the results obtained from the interview result and research being carried out. Working with the results gathered helps in preventing any form of bias as every user being interviewed has different needs and pain points even though (everyone's problem cannot be solved).

It is important to carry out user testing so feedback can be gathered from their opinions. In the process of carrying out user testing, you get to see your user's reactions, frustration and where they get stuck and the results gathered while testing the product help to further improve the design.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, it is best to carry out proper research, interview your potential users and if possible send out a questionnaire survey to gather enough details and results before the commencement of design and prototyping. Design thinking plays a big role in research as it helps in emphasizing with your users in building better products for them.
